You have the option to request use of a birthing stool.
Your support people: Two support people are allowed to accompany you during labor. If you want additional support, please discuss your situation with your nurse.
One-on-one nursing care: During active labor, you’ll have the benefit of one-on-one nursing.
Breastfeeding Resource Center: Breastfeeding support and services include:
- Prenatal breastfeeding classes
- Assistance with breastfeeding multiples and other special situations
- In-hospital consultations by referral

24/7 support: Many members of the nursing staff are trained to support breastfeeding, so there is someone available 24/7 to help you with breastfeeding questions.
Evanston Hospital serves as a Regional Perinatal Network hospital for northeastern Illinois. Both high-risk mothers and high-risk babies are transferred to Evanston Hospital so they have access to the latest technology and highly-trained staff.
Maternity Fetal Medicine specialists: NorthShore’s Center for Maternal and Fetal Health at Evanston Hospital offers consultative, diagnostic and therapeutic services for women experiencing complications or high risk pregnancies.
Level III ISCU: Evanston’s Infant Special Care Unit (ISCU) is a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the highest designation for nurseries, where neonatologists oversee baby’s care 24-hours a day.
Neonatologists are on-site 24/7.
ISCU:
All rooms offer televisions with streaming entertainment, including movies, music and games.
A fridge & microwave are available for your use in the unit.

Several staff members are bilingual in Spanish. In-person American Sign Language interpretation is also available. In addition, video and audio interpretation is available in virtually all other languages, as well as telecommunication devices for the hearing/sight impaired.

Newborn Intensive Care Unit (level III care)
Our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides advanced, around-the-clock care for premature and critically ill newborns of all gestational ages. Board-certified neonatologists are on-site 24/7 to deliver immediate, specialized care in a healing environment designed to keep families together. Parents and babies can stay together in private rooms while receiving expert, compassionate support.
Breastfeeding Resource Center:

Evanston Hospital offers walking tours of labor/delivery, postpartum and the nursery, led by a maternity nurse. The tour is free, but advance registration is required.
